PCB is all efforts to start a Pakistan Super League (PSL T20), modeled on the megabucks Indian Premier League.
Four companies, including one from India, are expected to give a presentation to the PCB this week on how to stage the PSL, with a UAE-based bank and two telecoms companies interested in taking up team franchises.
"It's exciting to have a very good initial response from corporate companies on the PSL," PCB chief operating officer Subhan Ahmed told us.
"We are looking at the viability of a Twenty20 event involving some foreign players, and it would be great if it comes about," he said.
It is not the first time the PSL idea has been floated. Former PCB chairman Naseem Ashraf wanted to launch a league to rival IPL, but he had to quit after military ruler Pervez Musharraf was ousted and the idea was dropped.
"We gave a detailed plan about PSL and shared it with the top brass of PCB in 2009 and they expressed great interest and took our business model, but it was not pursued," said Salman Ahmed, the co-partner in Portfolio World, a company which also deals with managing players.
Ahmed pointed to the success of the inaugural Bangladesh Premier League earlier this year as evidence that there is room for more than one Twenty20 league in South Asia.

LAHORE, Pakistan – Pakistan announced Thursday that it would host a multinational Super League in March in hopes the Twenty20 competition can revive international cricket in the troubled country. PCB announced that tournament will commence from 26th march.
There has been no top-class international cricket in Pakistan since Islamist militants attacked the Sri Lankan team in March 2009, killing eight Pakistanis and wounding seven visiting players.
Foreign teams have shunned the country over security fears, leaving Pakistan to play its home series in England and the United Arab Emirates.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) plans to host a Twenty20 league on the lines of the glitzy, cash-rich Indian Premier League, which has featured more than 100 foreign players since its inception in 2008.
The logo of the Pakistan Super League was unveiled at a colourful ceremony in Lahore, with PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf, former International Cricket Council chief executive Haroon Lorgat and Pakistan captains Mohammad Hafeez and Misbah-ul Haq in attendance.
Lorgat, who is acting as adviser to the new league, said he hoped the participation of foreign players would help Pakistan in a big way.
“With the rising popularity of Twenty20 cricket, every ICC member country has the right to host its own league. Pakistan has done hard work and I hope with foreign players’ participation, perceptions about the country will change,” Lorgat said.
Earlier the league was termed as PPL. It is now PSL T20 in short.
